Our consciousness can move out of our body and travel the astral plane as a non physical entity, it is better known as an out of body experience (OBE) where our consciousness travels and observes various dimensions. There has been debate on how one achieves this and has been recorded throughout history with tantrics and highly intuitive individuals meditating to enable the consciousness to travel across dimensions.
When you sleep your guardians on the astral plane get a chance to caution you by sending messages. Apparently falling asleep is almost similar to dying as we are believed to travel to another dimension altogether by leaving our physical body and the third dimension. This dimension refers to the astral plane or the fifth dimension. Astral world, it is the in between place, postulated by the great theosophists and philosophers of the early 20th century. A place spirits go to after death and before being born. Also a place that is supposed to be populated by angels and spirit guides. The term was established by neo-Rosicrucianism and Theosophy in the late 19th and early 20th century.
In his book Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramhansa Yogananda also speaks about this plane and how we can get connected apart from other ways through dreams if we open ourselves to it.
While we might forget most of our dreams, it is important to make a note as soon as you wake up and try and make sense out of it as dreams have a purpose and are not just illusionary. Usually our dreams could be over hued by our subconscious mind, hence important to dissect its real meaning. It is also said that our deceased relatives residing in the sphere try and reach out to us through dreams especially if they sense danger or just to make us feel reassured if they sense any insecurity. Also meditations can make one dream more as we open up to the astral world more and more with growing awareness.
The astral travel can give you great insights and even give you glimpses of what is yet to manifest in your physical world. It can open a whole new perspective you wouldn’t have considered otherwise, helping you look at things in a different manner.
Symbolism plays a big part in these dreams as words are supposed to have limitations. Symbols have been used through history as sacred codes and special teachings that can be understood gradually. In medieval times it was one way of protecting spiritual knowledge.
Early Egyptians, Greeks, Asians and Native Americans all tried to interpret dreams to attain higher knowledge about healing and in order to get guidance for the physical plane. It is said that the Egyptians knew before hand that the Nile was going to get flooded in ancient times as the spiritual leader got the vision in a dream state. The great Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud in his book The Interpretations of Dreams that was published in 1900, talks about how dreams are messages coming from another realm and hence must be decipherable, provided the interpreter has the keys that can unlock the code. While he does raise suspicion on whether it is not just a reflection of the psychological state of the individual, he does question the occurrence of premonitions in dreams. Premonitions come in dreams as the time zone on the astral plane is different and hence the future that is yet to unfold in real life can already be seen.
